Saturday, Sunday, Monday

A true Italian masterpiece
Why see Saturday, Sunday, Monday?
World Premiere Translation
The Stratford Festival brings to the stage the world premiere English translation of Saturday, Sunday, Monday, a comic masterpiece by 20th-century Italian playwright Eduardo de Filippo. This brand new adaptation, commissioned by the Festival, is co-translated by Donato Santeramo and Antoni Cimolino, with Cimolino also taking the director's helm for this staging. Drawing from the rich traditions of commedia dell'arte, Saturday, Sunday, Monday beautifully captures the often complex dynamics of Italian family life.
What Is It About?
Saturday, Sunday, Monday is a comical play which invites you into the home of a Neapolitan family over the course of a single weekend. A routine family gathering quickly turns sour over dinner, when longstanding disagreements which have bubbled under the surface between the family's protective matriarch and her quietly detached husband finally erupt into the open. The multi-generational household is soon all caught up in the flaring tempers, and it’s only humor and that unbreakable bond of family that can save them.
